ECT Recycling has won a five-year contract with Warwick District Council to develop a range of recycling services.
The deal – which will eventually be worth over £850K per year - begins in March and includes the introduction of a garden waste collection scheme and a multi-material doorstep service.
The garden waste collection scheme will serve some 24,000 homes and expects to collect over 5,000 tonnes of waste within the first year.
An existing paper only recycling service – currently run by Service Team - will also be taken over and expanded to provide multi-material recycling for 52,000 homes by April 2005.
It is hoped that this ambitious project will play a key role in helping Warwick reach its recycling target of 27% by 2005/6, as the service will eventually enable residents to recycle up to 40% of their household waste.
Cllr Margaret Begg, Environmental Services Portfolio holder said: “This represents a major step forward for the council and we are pleased to have the experience of ECT on board to help us meet the challenge of increasing recycling across Warwick District.”
Andy Bond, Managing Director of ECT Recycling said: “Clearly, we are delighted by the news. As only our third major contract outside London, this represents an important recognition of the role that social enterprise can play in helping deliver sustainable recycling services across the UK. We look forward to working with Warwick and helping them deliver their recycling targets.”
