'KING OF CLEAN' WINS COMMUNITY PRAISE

20/07/2006

ECT’s street cleaner John Linehan has won hearts in his local neighbourhood of Northolt with his dedication and hard work.

Local councillors and residents have joined forces with 38 Northolt businesses to sign a petition with a difference - to thank John, Northolt's 'king of clean', street cleaner for his efforts.

John is well known to local residents and businesses around his patch which stretches from the White Hart pub to Northolt Village.

Community members recently paid tribute to John and presented him with a special council award for excellence at Northolt Village Community Centre.

Northolt Mandeville ward councillor and deptuy mayor, Cllr Mrs Hazel Ware, said: "John is part and parcel of Northolt. Even though he has a very long route to cover each day, everyone you speak to knows his name and mentions the pride he takes in his work . When we visited shops to ask them to sign our petition everyone wanted to sign and they all sang his praises. We want him to know how much he is appreciated and I for one would be lost without him."

Andy Bond, managing director of ECT, congratulated John on his efforts and said he exemplified what ECT was all about. "John's a valuable member of our team. He's one of many workers at ECT who give their all to the people and the area they serve. It's great that the community and the council have recognised his efforts."

Joe Tavierner, Ealing Council's director of universal services, said: "This is exactly what excellent service delivery is all about. People doing very valuable jobs in a way which is appreciated by local residents and businesses alike. The award is our way of saying thanks for a job well done."
