Audit Trail

May Gurney Environmental Services knows that you want to be confident that what you put out on the doorstep to be recycled or take to your local recycling and reuse centre, ends up being recycled.

We have a clear audit trail system in place for the recycling process, which enables us to track how much material is collected and brought to its various recycling depots, and where it goes.

The audit trail system is based on weighbridge information which tracks not only what enters and leaves the recycling depots where the materials are stored after they have been collected, but also where this material goes afterwards.

• All May Gurney vehicles bringing recyclables collected at the kerbside are weighed in to the depots.
• All vehicles taking a bulk movement of these items to the end users/reprocessors are weighed out.
• May Gurney has a duty of care to ensure that the end users/reprocessors it sells materials to meet its legal and environmental standards, and that the materials are recycled. This is the case whether they are based in the UK or abroad. May Gurney prefers to use UK based organisations, however in some cases materials are exported to Europe and beyond.
• Waste transfer notes are generated for the above activities, which are reconciled. Each depot compiles reports on these figures and this information is aggregated into weekly and monthly reports for each contract, and sent to the local authority.
• 99.5% of what the depots receive will be taken by reprocessors/end users to be recycled.

May Gurney's audit system has been externally accredited to both ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, and is audited internally and externally by the British Standards Institute.

May Gurney meets its obligations under the Environmental Protection Act to demonstrate its duty of care to ensure the end users of the raw resources it supplies are compliant with both May Gurney and their own legal obligations.
